Acey Rowe on MTV's 1g5g lesbian edition

Last month I helped my girlfriend Acey make an audition video for MTV Canada's show ! girl 5 gays. I shot and edited the short video and she got on the show! You can stream the episodes over at mtv.ca. Three out of the four lesbian episodes have aired and the final of the four will air this friday at 11pm on MTV Canada.

Ahoy blogosphere,

it has once again been some time since i provided a real quality update. i've been in a kind of limbo in terms of my art practice. most of the past academic year was spent trying some new things out (like documentary), and taking liberal studies and interdisciplinary courses to prep for the theoretical and conceptual portion of my thesis. much of the year also consisted of planning for and developing my thesis, working through several ideas until i finally reached a conceptual and technical path i felt satisfied with.

after the semester was complete i took some time off for myself. i traveled to indio california for the coachella music festival, one of the best experiences i've ever had in my adult life. the artistic interaction integrated with music and live performance that took place was impressive and excitng and upon my return i was more inspired than ever to integrate my own experimental video practice with performance and interactive media.

just under a month ago i resumed my position as the equipment coordinator at charles street video. CSV is an artist run facility that rents video, audio and editing equipment and space out to local artists at a discounted rate. it's been going well and it provides with me the opportunity to use and explore both obscure and high quality AV recording devices.

in terms of screenings, L.U.G.S screened just two weeks ago at the castro theatre in san fransisco. it was shown twice and played in the series Fun In Girls Shorts as part of the Frameline Film Festival, the largest LGBTQ film festival in the world.

Dead (g)end(er) magazine is hosting another night of literary readings, visual art and vegan baked goods. the occasion is to celebrate the success of the first issue of dg mag and to promote environmental awareness.

The event takes place at the Niagara Artists' Centre, 354 St Paul Street in St. Catharines.

It's been a little while since I've updated. Some things are coming up, such as the launch for dead (g)end(er), a progressive Canadian literary and art magazine that will be coming out this month. The Launch is at the Niagara Artists Centre this upcoming Thursday, April 7th at 7pm. The address is 354 St. Paul Street in St Catharines.

There will be performances, readings, and I will be screening a video piece.
I have two illustrations featured in the mag and there are lots of great writing and visual arts pieces by friends and talented people.

seeing as ocad has decided to have a snow day, i thought it the perfect time to conclude my blogging hiatus and provide you all with an update.

the AIDS Wolf video for Catholic for Rent that I worked on with the boys from exploding motor car finally dropped last december. turns out the video was a bit too out there for all of the major music blogs (stereogum, pitchfork etc), but that hasn't deterred it from getting quite a few views and a reasonable amount of hype.

i actually don't mind this take on the video, including the part where they mention the use of a non existent strobe light.
what do you think?

in other news, i spent a good part of last semester working on a short documentary about the exploding motor car collective. i've acquired a lot of good footage and there now exists a rough edit. i've taken some time off of working on it, but will return to it in the near future.

i'm currently enrolled in three classes this semester and will be editing three thesis films and helping with production on a couple of other projects, so it should be a busy few months.

The AIDS wolf shoot in Montreal was insane, and I will be posting a link to the video once it has been completed. The dd/mm/yyyy video for I'm Still In the Walls should be coming up soon, so stay tuned.

Right now I'm finishing up my edits on some Nuit Blanche videos that will be screened at St Thomas' Anglican Church, 383 Huron St. (just south of Bloor). The event runs from 7pm October 2nd until 7am October 3rd. Event link here.

I'm also working on editing the panels and some additional footage documenting the IMAA On.Fire conference that took place in early June. The bulk of that work should be done by the end of next week.

Apart from that I'm mainly working on school work. Soon to get started on a short documentary I'll be shooting this semester and trying to come up with a solid concept for a script I'll be writing over the next couple of months.

Also, I recently acquired a Canon Rebel T2i, which I will be shooting the bulk of my projects on this year.

The next few months will consist of documenting, script writing, editing and experimentation via pixelvision , T2i, datamoshing, VHS dubbing.

this past weekend was a good one. thursday night/friday morning i saw the midnight screening of scott pilgrim. it was fairly stellar. there were a couple of small things i wish they hadn't left out, but all in all i think it was an appropriate translation of the comic. friday i worked and went to two parties. the first was graham and jenn's party at her condo on bay. graham made sangria and muffins, and although i didn't end up trying the latter, the former was actually quite good.
around midnight i headed over to SMUT, cassie and mark's art party. it was nice to see everyone. it was also nice to have some of my prints hanging on the walls, as print making is still new to me.
saturday i spent the day with exploding motor car (winston hacking and brett long) and helped them with the shoot of the upcoming ddmmyyyy video. it involved green chroma key body suits, green instruments, a skate park, biking around the city, and running amuck in value village. i'm looking forward to seeing the final product. you can see some production stills here.

i might be heading to montreal labour day weekend to work on an AIDS wolf video with winston and brett.
i talked to robin on the phone last night and it looks like the nuit blanche plans for pillars of fire are coming together. i have three videos to edit and i better get to work. we will be having a fundraiser for nuit blanche on september 9th. it will be at the white house and i, as well as the other artists involved will have work showing.
back to school soon full time. excited for nearly all of my classes.

2010 has been an extremely busy year for me so far.

since the end of april winter classes have ended and my job at the cage is over for the next four months. i went to las vegas with my family for a week in may. it was fun for what it was but i'm not sure if i'd ever go back. on the plus side i saw conan live one night and a drag show later that week at the imperial palace.

when i got back to the city in may i started my three week screen printing course with the wonderful shannon gerrard. i've now completed that class and it went really well. made some nice prints and shirts and i'm looking forward to printing in the fall semester. I was also enrolled in a creative writing class but wasn't digging it. i ended up dropping the course but am considering taking japanese cinema this august.

from the 20th to the 30th of may the inside out lgbt film and video festival took place. sarah and i both had festival passes and went to nearly all the parties and a number of films. the screening of l.u.g.s in the hogtown homos series went surprising well and i was happy at how it was received. emma mckenna and carmen elle also showed up for the screening and both congratulated me afterwards which was nice.

this past weekend i went to niagara for a few nights. i had the time to relax, enjoy the weather and read. i also finally got my g license, which i feel in some way gives some kind of adult driver status. i'm just happy that this process is finally complete for me and that i will be able to drive on the way to montreal this summer.

today is my last day of unemployment before i start my position at charles street video. i'm a little anxious to start my job and i'm really looking forward to it.

The film that Sarah and I spent the majority of the semester working is complete and is premiering at Canada's largest LGBTQ film festival, Inside Out!
It will be screening as part of the Hogtown Homos series on May 26th at 7:15 pm at the Isabel Bader Theatre. The theatre is located across from the ROM at 93 Charles St West.

rough cut of l.u.g.s was completed tonight. next step is to polish and put things together nicely. then to fit appropriate music to appropriate scenes, contact musicians, get permission, have audio mixed and mastered and send it off to festivals!

I saw him in May at the Deleon White Gallery on College West and after that night I knew I had to see him again.
